View Full Version : Plays perfectly for about an hour, then....

the video started juddering, then pausing for a bit and it gets worse and worse the longer through the film it goes.

The sound continues during the pauses so it gets hopelessly out of sync. If I pause and unpause then video plays smoothly again with no sound until it has caught up with where the sound got to, then the sound comes back and the video starts freezing again.

Like I say, it is absolutely perfect for just over an hour.

I guess it is a slight sound/video sync issue?

This is a TV recording using GBPVR. I run the recording through Pocketdivx (otherwise the PSP video starts a couple of seconds behind the sound), do the sync fix then throw the result at PSP vid 9 2.17 with the default native res settings.

Any ideas?

I'm afraid I don't know enough to help - but could I ask what "do the sync fix" means? What/where is this sync fix, as I am having audio syncing issues.

thx.

It's in Pocketdivx at the bottom of the screen.

Hmm... I'm not quite sure what tools you're using, but I also use GBPVR to record television shows, and often convert them for use on my PSP. Dunno if it'll be helpful, but here's what I do...

The MPEG files created by GBPVR (and most free PVR software) are often riddled with errors. I use a program called ProjectX (http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/DigiTV/ProjectX_0.90.4.zip) (requires Java) to fix and demux the MPEG file. I then use Cuttermaran (http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/DigiTV/Cuttermaran%201.68a.zip) (requires the MS .NET 1.1 Framework) to edit out the commercials and remux the file. The resulting MPEG file then can be transcoded by PSPVideo 9 or ffmpeg without any issues.

ProjectX takes a little getting used to. It's not the friendliest GUI ever, but it does the job, and does it very well. Cuttermaran is probably the easiest and most convenient app I've used to manually remove commercials from television recordings.

I don't think there are any errors with the recording. It even works when I test the resulting MP4 file in Quicktime.
But then again today I had the same problem. Again it only starts after about 1hr 10 mins and gets progressively worse.
I don't understand how it can play fine in Quicktime but not on the PSP. I suspect that if I were to divide up the original recording into hour long chunks and then convert them separately then they would work. It's as if something goes wrong with the framerate or audio sync but such a small amount that it doesn't have an effect until 70mins into the file.

Actually I'll give the dividing up idea a go.

Okay, a 2 hour film is fine if I split the avi into two one hour chunks and convert them into two separate mp4 files.

It's not an ideal solution though. Something is going wrong in pspvideo9.

BT52 can you please tell me (everyone) what settings you are using?

Like I said in the first post, the default native res setting, the one you get after installing.
PSP / AVC 480x272 768kbps stereo 128

I tried fiddling a bit with a new profile, but decided I didn't really know what I was doing... ;)

Try adding "-async 1" w/o the quotes into the Additional CLI parameters and see if it still happens. Although if it happens roughly after an hour, not sure if having a 1 will help. Maybe 2.
