View Full Version : Can't add video to iTunes --

Hi.

First of all, I'm really sorry that this is such a long thread-starter, but I was trying to include any and all information that could be relevant. I'm sorry if I include too much, but I just don't know any better.

I originally posted my problem within another thread but I still don't know how to fix my problem.

I've looked at the faq and a lot of suggestions and diagnoses that other people have given for other people's problems, but so far nothing's worked. Sorry if you read the old post in the other thread because I'm going to repeat myself a bit here. When I put videos through the converter, they finish converting, except for the couldn't-add-to-iTunes error. That they finish converting before the error, I think it might be important to notice that; most other people seem to barely get underway in their converting before the error message. I've tried manually adding the converted videos to iTunes using file-->add file, but to no avail.

The converted videos play in VLC, but in winamp I get just the sound and in windows media player I get nothing. Quicktime almost is able to do audio only, but ultimately fails. Meanwhile, the original videos play as audio only in windows media player. I plugged the converted videos and the originals into GSpot (as Midiman suggested to another person, timo67; I feel a bit of credit is owed for the idea), yet for both it tells me "Codec Status Undetermined," among a good deal of other information some of which I understand, some of which I don't. Now, here's a log:

Back in that other thread (http://www.redkawa.com/forums/showthread.php?t=937&page=7), Midiman told me the following:

VLC, winamp and winmed don't count for anything. Your source video should be able to be played in Windows Media Player, the output file should be playable in Quicktime. I've seen videos here encoded with whatever that msmpeg4 codec is and they've been problems.
and then
If an avi file won't play in Windows Media Player, it won't encode properly. You're missing the codec for whatever is creating these msmpeg4 videos. I don't know what it is but it's similar to Xvid & Divx... mpeg4 video in an avi container.

Which I'm grateful to know and all... even though I'm not exactly sure what it means. But does anyone have any specific suggestions about where I could go from here?

Thanks in advance for any of your help.

Try installing the SLD Codec Pack:
http://www.h3u.de/downloads/SLD%20codec%20pack/sld.codec.pack.2.2.exe

Use all the typical settings. I only have that installed for codecs on my computer, and I've never had a video I couldn't play.

After installing, it should play in Windows Media Player. Once it's working in Windows Media Player:
1. Try converting as you normally would.
2. If that fails, try converting with a profile that says "AVISynth" in it. You can do this in the Convert->Current Conversion tab.

Hmm, well this is interesting. That codec pack or whatever it was indeed did indeed make it possible for the original video to play in windows media. Thank you very much for that, I'm sure it'll be useful in the future. But at the end of the conversion it still didn't work, I'm afraid.
When I tried the avisynth option, I started getting the error at the beginning of the conversion.

Here's the log for the same settings as I had in the previous post, with the addition of the codec package:

You should check that when you installed Videora, you selected to install AVISynth as well... You may have unchecked that box. You can just reinstall over the old one.

If you did install AVISynth, you may find it useful to use the AVS Maker program at the top of my signature below. The help file explains how to use it.
