Hi,
I have a PSP that is 3.30 and I'm trying the beta PSP Video 9 out because I read that it can do 480x272 (or whatever the native was).
I'm using the default profile to convert - AVC 480x272 768bps.
My video has sound, and is by default, 640x480.
I notice that the thumbnail generated by PSP Video 9 is now jpg, and I have to change it back to .THM in order to see it, but that still doesn't allow my Psp to play it.
Any help is much appreciated.

Boy, do I know how you feel.
I've tried changing the settings in numerous ways and I still get the "Unrecognized format". At some point I did manage to convert a part of a movie. But even though I used the same settings for about 10 different files I got different results. Some videos had the correct thumbnail-file while others did not. One file was supposed to last 20 minutes but somehow would only play 6.
I must conclude that the new PSP Video 9 does not yet produce a consistent outcome like the old version - or at least I can't figure it out.
What really bothers me is that the video quality in the files that I did manage to convert into something the PSP would recognize was absolutely awesome!!!
Can anyone give us a hint about how to use the program correctly?

I'm having the same issue myself. A little more on the topic-
I've tried each of the possible conversion format templates, and placed the results of each in each different possible directory.
Tried with or without legacy numbering enabled.
I have the most recent firmware (3.40) on a 1+ year old psp, but had to create the VIDEO directory folder (not that manually doing so yielded any results)
Files converted play on my pc, but show as unsupported data on the psp itself. Yet, when you check the information on the file in the psp's explorer- it shows it is clearly a video file
with all the proper variables.
Sometimes when converting files, under some video profiles, the program finishes instantly and generates files with 0kb size, but that seems to be a separate problem.
Running windows vista, unfortunately.
Any thoughts anyone?

One of the things you can try is a forced frame rate instead of a Autoframe rate. The PSP is very picky on the frame rate. a 29.97001 will cause it to go unreconized format. This was the biggest factor for me when I did my trial and error back in the PSP 1.97 days.

Heh same thing happens to me too except i'm running on Windows XP which shouldn't make much of a different. Could just be because of PSP firmware 3.40. Which i also run on my PSP :(

The same happen to me. I tried change to fixed framerate and set to 29.97 as suggested by Nusakan. The encode I got from pspvideo still is not recognize by PSP. Nusakan, Do you have any suggestion on tweaking the profile to make it generally work on most of the media files.

Have you tried using MPEG-4 480X272 768kbps instead?
It seems to work for my PSP, but the file is quite big.

Just curious, but have you tried sticking it in the "VIDEO" folder rather than the root folder? I'm not having any problems, and that's where I stick my AVC .mp4's. I keep my thumbnails as .jpg's too. Oh, and no more stupid file names like MVQ1001.MP4 anymore...
Anyway, just a thought...

Well I did put them in the VIDEO folder, just that some of the MP4 file encode by PSPVIdeo can be playback and some become unrecognized format. It is too unstable compared to previous build. I guess I hold off PSPVideo until the next build or so.

Hmm... nothing that pops to my head, could you PM me (prefered) or post where you got your video so I can take a look at it?
The problem is the video itself, if you put your video in any other directory, generally you won't see it at all. If you're getting an unreconized format or unsupported data, it means that the device reconized that an MP4 is there but doesn't know what to do with it.

Again:
psp firmware 3.40
psp video 9 2.17 beta set to a default 768k 1 pass 480x272 profile,
Windows Vista (unfortunately)
Problem: video converted ok to play on computer, but shows up as unsupported format on psp itself. Tried legacy naming, thumbnail creation, moving the file to any folder directory I could think of, including all the mp_root and h:/psp/video folder I created myself.
I fixed it today. As odd as it sounds, the video folder shouldn't be next to all the other PHOTO, MUSIC, and similarly named folders inside the PSP directory. I started trying to get any kind of video to work post 3.40 firmware, including things I got online that were already encoded, like trailers. This lead me to download a "content pack" from sony, which installed the proper file folder hierarchy. Now I can just drag and drop appropriately named files into the newly created directory and they play. No more bizarre legacy naming.
Sony's content pack site:
http://www.us.playstation.com/psp/ContentPack
FYI, you can delete all the garbage in the folders when you are done installing without risk of compromising future playback. Just don't delete the VIDEO or PICTURE folders themselves.
Hope this helps.

So, for example, can you take a file that was formerly named "MAQ10001.mp4" and rename it to "ANIME.mp4" and it will still run as long as it's in the VIDEO folder?
Other question is what about video that was encoded with the previous pspvideo9 with older firmware? Can you put those in the VIDEO folder and rename them? I tried bringing them over this morning with their normal MAQ names but it came up as unsupported format.
