You're running Vista... which is a problem. Try storing the source and converted files outside the Users area on the hard drive. All the files you are converting will probably play perfectly on any system not running Vista... although you don't say specifically what your problem is.

I just got Vista and I do not store anything in the "Users" folder (I have it save to D:\) and it works fine.

Don't know what the problem is you're having, but the source video (The Queen) from log 2 does not have audio.

I was having issues too with Vista. I just read this thread. I tried to open a file in the Users folder and got the "bad atom" error message. I moved the file to c:/ and it opened great and imported into iTunes.

so whats the problem? your converting short videos. 1 second and 3 minutes

The misread play length is typical for some file types. I'm sure your VOB file is longer than reported. Not sure what Speed is carrying on about.

One really good tool to use is VideoRedo. If the times are not being reported correctly, load the VOB file in VideoRedo and select QuickStreamFix. That fixes most, if not all, of my DVD conversion issues. I know with older versions of Videora/FFMPEG that it relies on the timestamp to determine file length which is why it comes up with the wrong times sometimes. QSF should take care of that. Just save the file as an MPEG.

The logs show that the program is resizing your video automatically, but it's complaining that the video is not a factor of 16. Isn't there a Mod 16 option in the video section of the compression settings? Try turning that ON, saving it, and retrying it.

I'd personally rather not have to convert my VOBs to mpgs just to reconvert them to mp4s. Extra compression, extra loss of quality. The misreported play length is not an issue.

Actually, since the MPEG is just the container format, it's still MPEG-2 so you're not re-encoding the file. VideoRedo does a direct frame copy (basically, remuxing)

The play length can actually be an issue for some movies. One movie I had, Rumor Has It, would only show a length of 43 minutes or so because it reset the timecode on the layer change.

Yeah, VideoRedo sounds like a pretty simple (and quick) step for this. Since my DVD conversions are DGIndex/AVISynth, I don't ever remember having the problem.
