I put the IP into my PS3 browser and I have the settings so that it goes into my documents (an easy pic transfer). So I type the IP into my PS3 and BAM I get "The page cannot be displayed." any help would be appreciated.

yeah well i messed around with it.. when you do it, make sure you start the Media Center X program, and click Launch Media Center. do that and the site should come up on your pc. then while thats still up go to your ps3 on the web browser and enter in what the media centers IP address shows up as on your pc and then on your ps3 it should come up. thats how i did it and it worked so, hope this helps !!

Mine works. I work in a local area network. The PC running my media center is:
192.168.1.101
To access it with my PS3, I put in the following:
http://192.168.1.101:8192
This should work.

Wow, your IP address is exactly one digit different then mine, which is 192.168.7.101.
That's friggin weird.

You don't need the actual website up on your pc to access it from the PS3, you just need the file server running.

I can get the page up on the PS3 but I can not navigate to the converted file in My Documents and Settings. I get the .. (dot dot) line followed by all the files in the Media Center folder. When I click on the dot dot line it doesn't go anywhere.
When I click on this dot dot line on the PC I can see how you can navigate to the file.
When I couldn't get it to work I thought I'd just change the address in the directory to point to the MPEG-4-VAC folder where my converted file also is but that didn't work either. I'm at a loss now and wondering what the addresses in the directories actually do to include the start directory as well. I even messed with putting addresses in the start directory trying to figure out what it does and what it changes but it's still a mystery to me. Ideas on what it might be or things to try would be appreciated.

Its because 192.168.x.x is your ip on your LAN. which is pretty much the same for everyone.

Anyone know any reason why when I type in my ip in ps3 browser, with ps3 media center open, it comes up as "The page cannot be Displayed"? I've opened the ports 8000-9000 on my router.

I have the same problem as well. I can reach the site on my PC, but not on the PS3 or another PC. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I have the PS3 MCX running, and I type in the address http://192.168.0.8:8192 onto my PS3, and it says page cannot be displayed. I do it on another computer, same thing. I do it on this computer, it comes up.

On your own computer go to:
Settings>Software>Edit Settings...
Then you will get onto a screen that says:
"The settings for the Files program can only be modified through the computer which Red Kawa Media Center is running on. To access these server settings, please click here."
Click on "Click here"
Add a new directory that isn't "C:\Documents and Settings"
for eg... I made "C:\PS3"
Then add "C:\PS3" in the text box underneath "Start Directory" then try it again on your PS3!!

Hi: Red Kawa noob here, we Brits have only had our PS3s since Friday anyway!
I've succesfully found my laptop's hard drive via my PS3 (thanks to the :8192 method others were missing on this thread) but can't now transfer the .MP4 file I'm using as a test, it's an episode of Heroes that I converted on PSPVideo9.
When I click on it the PS3 tells me to "Insert storage media at save destination."
On the other hand if I try to import an old .mpg file that I have on there, it lets me save it to the PS3 Video folder, and plays fine. It's a short video captured on the laptop's webcam.
Why will it let me transfer mpg and not mp4?

Well like I posted in another thread, I had this issue with the some of my files. What I would recommend is to redownload the Heroes episode in it's unconverted format and convert it using PS3Video9, not PSPVideo9. The format you converted it to is most likely not supported by the PS3.
I ran into this issue with a One Piece episode I have, it was .mp4 which the PS3 supports...but only 2 specific formats. Turns out it wasn't the correct one. So just use the PS3V9 and convert it to MPEG4 or MPEG2 and it'll transfer fine.
Oh and the size shouldn't be a factor, I was able to transfer 1.5GB last night. :D
Hope that helps.

Glad to help :D
I'm glad I found this, since now I'm able to play all of my movies/anime/series on my PS3 without having to drag my PC speakers into the living room lol.
