I use the windows media player 11 to share files with my 360, and its mostly worked fine for music and pictures. But it only lets me view certain videos from my computer (.wmv files), so i was looking for a way to view the rest of my videos on my 360. So i got this program to convert the files to what i thought would be the correct format. So i tried it out with a video that shows up in the 360, but doesnt work, says not supported format when i try. So after converting the file and putting the converted video into the folder that is being shared, it doesn't even show up. Anyone have any idea whats wrong and how to view the converted videos?

Okay, sounds like you are using media extender...

Here's EXACTLY what you need to do...

Convert your videos,
when they are done, move them to the My Videos folder.
Turn on your xbox, and go to the media tab
Now, instead of going down to Media Center, choose videos - then computer, and it should show you the My Videos folder.

In here, pick your video and click play. I also noticed this problem with the Media center so I had to do it this way. If you get a small picture, press the A button on the controller, and you should have a pop up that is like a vcr/dvd controller with back and pause and all of that. The button just to the right of skip forward adjusted the picture on mine to view it full screen, so you want to use the best possible settings in your converter for your tv.

Hope this helps.

Actually I don't use extender, i dont have one of those media center OS's, what I do is just use window media player 11 set to sharing with my xbox, so ive been using the media>vidoe>computer way of viewing my videos from the start, so i dont think that's the problem

While the Zune software is one alternative, if you don't have a Zune, then it is a very very slow klunky resource hogging peice of crap. It's only real upside is the simplicity given in adding media to the library. It works, and it is an option, but I don't recommend it.

I recommend using TVersity. It isn't nearly as big of a resource hog as the klunky Zune software, it's really fast and easy, plus it's free. The only hassle is that adding media to the library takes a bit more time. But given the extra flexibility and options of the program, it's very easily worth the trade off. You can snag Tversity from its official website here:
http://tversity.com/home

It is recommended that you use the K-Lite Codec Pack with TVersity, as this codec pack can play quite literally anything, and is fully compatible with TVersity (most codec packs should work, however some may cause problems). You can find the latest version of the pack and a list of its contents here.
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Codec_Pack.htm

If you plan on using TVersity, it is recommended that you turn off the sharing option under WMP or Zune software, or they may (in some cases) not allow the 360 to see TVersity. It is recommended you open or forward port 41952 to the computer running TVersity as that is the default port the program uses (you can however change it to any other port you wish. opening the port reduces the chances of any problems or conflicts in accessing your media, and forwarding the port to the computer running TVersity will allow you to view your media from the internet via basic http layout if you so wish (You can password protect this if you need to)).

The 360 should be able to detect TVersity under the default auto-detect feature, with no specific IP address listed. If not, then setting it to detect 360 and entering your computers IP address should resolve the problem (this problem seems to only ever occur when upgrading versions).

I'm using the RedKawa Videora 360 converter to convert my media from 480p (Xvid)AVIs to 720p/1080p H264s and TVersity to stream all my media to my 360 and the results are quite satisfactory. :D

Hope this helps!

Having problems getting the xbox 360 to play back my mp4 that have been made with mkv passthrough. The first one i did worked great ep 9 of planet earth and at the end of the process it deletes the additional files it made. Every other file i have made has crashed at 98% and has not deleted the other files. I delete these manually but the mp4 will play with wm11 but it says unsupported file on the xbox 360. Any help please:(
