i type in my IP address and :8192 after it, but the browser will just sit there on the Opera start page. I saw a thread about this problem, but the solutions were only given for Mac. I'm using a PC and this is also happening to me. How do I get my Wii to access my stuff!?

Be sure Wii Media Center is running on your computer. And type the ENTIRE address http://xxx.xx.xx.xx:xxxx etc.

Is that all that needs to be done? I'm pretty sure I tried that, but I'll try it again. Thanks for the suggestion. If anyone else has any other ideas why it might not be working for me please do tell, thanks.

Yo Spiderkid, i got the answer ur lookin 4. First find out ur IP address by right-clicking on 'status' on ur Local Area Connection icon which u will find on ur taskbar then a window will open next click on the 'support' tab and write down ur IP address.

Next go to 'My Computer' then go to ur 'C Drive' > 'Program Files' > 'Red Kawa' > 'Media Center' now right-click the .PROP File named 'webserver.prop' and open with Note Pad. Now the second line will say 'IP=Default' now replace 'Default' with ur IP, the one from ur LAN Status, once thats done save it and ur done.

Just open 'Wii Media Center X' and use the address it gives u and it should work.

I don't think you fully understand my problem, NGCMaster. I know my IP address, i input it with the 8192 into my browser's URL bar on my PC and it works perfectly fine. In fact, i even made a custom Wii-themed skin for it and all. So i know it works. But that's on my PC. My problem is getting the Opera broswer on my Wii to do anything when i input my IP:8192 into it. For example, if i were to enter google.com into browser, it would bring me straight to http://www.google.com/. However, when i put my IP address plus the 8192, the browser doesn't bring me anywhere. It doesn't do ANYTHING. And this IS while I have Wii Media Center X 0.92 running on my PC. Does anyone at least fully understand my problem? If so, do you know of a solution?

I noticed you said you only type google.com and it takes you there. You need to type "http://xxx.x.x.x.:xxxx" for it to work.

im pretty sure you dont need to type in the http:// and i had the same problem where it doesnt do anything. After noticing this i just ran back to my computer to notice that it was off due the finishing of a conversion of a movie. And you have the computer on, so im thinking your wii might be on a differnt network then your computer, you might be on your neighbors or something

wait, what? you have a "." where i didnt know there was one. you say to type http://xxx.x.x.x.:8192 but i've been typing http://xxx.x.x.x:8192 this whole time. is that really it? cuz on my pc i just type it without the extra "."

alright, nobody gets it. I know how to input the IP address. I can get to the site from my PC. I input the exact same thing into my Wii and it goes nowhere. Please, can someone give me some help that isn't telling me to input the IP address like http://xxx.x.x.x:8192 please.

Maybe if i said step by step what i do, someone can help me... ok, so...
I run Wii Media Center X 0.92 on my PC. I check out the IP it tells me, which I already know by heart. I open up a new tab in Firefox and test it out. It works fine and I'm slighty hopefull it'll work on my Wii. I head over to my Wii, go to the Internet Channel, and wait for the Opera Start page to show up. I click on the button in the middle labeled "www". I enter http://(my IP address):8192, just the way Wii Media Center X 0.92 tells me, and just the way I did on my PC earlier. I click OK. nothing happens. no page loads, not even a blank page. NOTHING happens. at all. Then I come back to these forums to see if there's any hope. Later I retry the process.

you must not have read my earlier post, there is probably something wrong with your network, they might be two totally different networks. Because the same happens if you have the computer off. Try going to seemyip on both computer and wii and see if they are the same, if not then your wii is on the wrong netowrk, which is possible if you live in dense area.

i highly doubt that, since i just recently got my router, and before that i tried searching for networks and got nothing. but, I'm desperate now and I'll try just about anything that makes sense, so here I go. thanks for trying to help me so much btw.

T-T argh, that wasnt the solution either... my Wii is in fact connected to my router. I tried again and still nothing. i might just have to stick with using orb.com. :\ this sucks

Maybe you're using a Firewall on your PC? You must reconfigure it to let extern accees through.

I have the exact same problem. (WinXP SP2 )

What router are you using? I have a Linksys WRT54G with HyperWRT firmware.
I have tried disabling all firewalls, putting my IP in a DMZ(unnecessary), turning off DHCP + manually entering all network information, everything I could think of, basically.
I am wondering if there is something wrong with my network setup.
My next try is going to be with OSX and see if that makes a difference.

yeah, i was thinking that might be it, but is there anyway i can do that without going through the Control Panel? cuz when i try to open Windows Firewall, a msgbox appears and says "Due to an unidentified problem, Windows cannot display Windows Firewall settings." and it's pissing me the hell off.

hmm... hold on now, I can not access my Windows Firewall settings, but I could turn off the old Internet Connection Firewall. Now it says doesn't my Local Area Connection is firewalled anymore, so did I take the Windows Firewall off as well? I'm filled with the light of hope again! Ima try connecting from the Wii again right now...

Does it matter if my computer is on a wireless?

I found out how to make it work.
You go to the firewall settings then on the third tab, select wireless (or whatever your connection is) then click "Add" and enter those:
Wii Media Center
(Your ip number)
8192 (TCP checked)
8192

Then hit OK and check Wii Media Center.
For me, it now works!

Well, first off figure out why you cannot access your firewall. That would help alot.

I started having the same problems as you, not being able to access the Media Center and Opera Browser sitting there at the homepage. But I figured out a mehtod that worked for me and maybe you as well. I'm not sure if you know the basics so I'll take you through it as if you were a noob.

If you go to the Start Menu/Run. Type in "cmd". The Command Prompt window will open, please type in ipconfig

Assuming you are under a wireless network, under "Ethernet adapter Wireless Network Connection:" There should be "IP Address . . . . . : xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx"

where the xxx's are actually numbers. Please copy and paste or write this number down.

Then you are going to want to navigate to: C:\Program Files\Red Kawa\Media Center

and open the webserver.prop file. it will probably tell you that it needs to search for a program to open it with. just choose to select one yourself and choose the program Notepad.

It should say IP=Default, delete default and paste or type in your "xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" number instead. Save it or maek a copy of the default one if you don't want to reverse the process if it doesn't work.

Close everything up, launch the Media Center. Confirm the new address, and enter it into the Wii Browser. Worked for me, hope it works for you. If it doesn't then......

I tried to see if Port Forwarding/Triggering mattered, and I believe that it DOES NOT.

I found that website (http://www.md4pc.com/questions/88.htm)where they explain what to do for this problem.. I hope it works.

I have tried everything to get this program to work. It worked the first time I loaded it up and then the next day it does nothing. I have done everything correct.

I've made sure Media Center is open and active, I've enabled sharing, I've done what the above quote said to do and put it in the exceptions list, I've rebooted my computer, I've made sure to copy the address EXACTLY as it is. The only thing I can think of next is to uninstall Media Center X and then reinstall it.

Please any help would be appreciated.

Alright, I finally updated to XP Service Pack 2 (I know, i know), and I can completely access my Firewall Settings. So what do I do there to allow my Wii to access my IP:8192?

Ero-ThraX
01-12-2007, 10:27 AM
Just to clear something up, are we using our external or internal IP for this. Seeing as how the Wii is on the inside of the network can we not just access this through http://192.168.1.x:8192, surely? That way I would have no problems from my routers firewall or my computer firewall as i have internal connections allowed.

Hi Ero-ThraX,

Media Center X was designed with the idea that it would be used on an internal network (192.168.1.x:9182). I believe people are having issues with firewall software running on their computer.

yo, i have the exact same problem as spider and all the others, and just to be clear it has nothing to do putting http: or / or wateva. the wii simply doesnt register that 192.xxxxxx is an actual ip/site, so the wii does nothing. you get the exact same result if u type alot of random letters into the www thing. so yea ive tried everything you guys have surgested, with 0 luck i will continue to solve the problem but could really use alot of help

cheers

I was having problems to. I typed in the address, and nothing happened.
I thought it was my firewall so I switched it off, but that didn't solve the problem. Looking deeper, I read the firwall logs, and saw that an inbound connection WAS trying to connect to my compputer (port 8192) and it was being denied. I allowed this connection, and all was well.

My advice to you all - check your firewalls, even when they're switched off they can still cause a problem.

did you guys connect to the correct router?
thats one of the problem that i got :P
you should open the port too but not in your router but in your pc
and make sure your computer and the wii have the same class of ips
like 192.168.0.xxx for your pc and your wii should be 192.168.0.xxx:8192

i had the same problem also...but i realized it was a firewall issue.

There are 2 firewalls in windows xp (sp2).

1. when you right click on the specific connection
2. In control panel under security center.

The 2nd one is usually turned on.

My computer had the 1st firewall turned off but the 2nd one was on since i had pc-cillian turned on my firewall automatically. So i had to go in and shut off the program.

Hopefully this will help you guys and good luck!

Hi guys, another 'i have the same problem'-reply :)

I'm not using any software or hardware firewall. I even changed the webserver port to 80, and filled in my internal ip in the webserver propherties. (192.168.1.102). I can connect to the webserver with all the pc's in my house but when i try to connect with my Wii it just doesnt do anything.

I made several entry's to try to connect. http://192.128.1.102/, http://192.128.1.102./. 192.128.1.102/, etc. With the original 8192 port; same problem.
When i try to connect to my external ip adress i still cant. Even in DMZ, nothing happens...

Im using WIFI Max dongle btw, wich works fine. I can acces other websites without any troubles.

Hope someone finds out how to solve this problem, thanks in advance!

yeah! finally figured it out, it's so simple.

My Wii is connected to the internet via WIFIMax. It's a wireless acces point connected to my pc via USB. Somehow the wii won't connect to the webserver if it's running on the same pc as the wireless usb accespoint.

I installed the media center on an other pc and now it works flawless!!! Hope this works for other people too! good luck ;)

I have a similar problem to resilience, but I turned my wireless card into an access point. I already have a second wireless usb adaptor connected, which I use to access the uni internet (and cannot be changed), and then share that connection thru the access point to get online. I was wondering if i would need a third wireless adaptor to connect my pc to the access point, essentially spoofing the presence of another pc?

Oh, sweet YESNESS!!!! I finally got a PC that I have connected to my router wirelessly, and I run WMCX on that PC and the Wii can perfectly connect to WMCX now. Juice.
