Hey guys,

I have converted my avi video's into MP4 which the 360 should be able to play thanks to the spring dashboard update. However, when I goto My Videos, the 360 doesnt even detect the MP4 files in the folder.

I am using Windows Media Connect, and I can access my music folder and have added My Videos to share its content with the 360.

Any ideas?

I posted a similar message here http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=602042
and found out that windows media connect will not list any MP4 files you have shared, you can use Zune from Zune.net

Hey folks,
Don't know why this little fact is not made more clear somewhere, or that someone else hasn't figured it out and posted, but any case I too had the same prob.

I converted my torrent avi file to the default mp4 setting for xbox console in videora 2.25 and could not play files in 360. I tried mpg2 (1080p) in the settings tab and voila, it works, in fact I have an MMA fight playing in the background right now!

suffice to say, this process took way took long, a third party app (videora) and much trouble shooting to qualify for 10' media center easy viewing pleasure.

This would ideally be baked into 360, or simply as a plug in for xp/vista media center to do straight conversions 'on the fly' or something.

I think as a whole, this console/media center/streaming/rippingtorrent thing is not prime time yet. But listen to me complain, I'm ripping stuff for free AND whining about it.

HOpe that helps out fellow video peeps out there.
cheers,
TB

That update allows your Xbox to play MP4 files, but it won't allow Media Centre (or connect) to show Mp4 files I'd personally go with TVersity - it can stream your pre converted mp4's, or convert divx/xvid files on the fly.

What I generally do is preconvert anything in HD (720 or 1080) to mp4, but convert on the fly anything of a lower resolution.

If you converted the movie to mp4, just rename the mp4 extension with wmv and it should work.

No, that does not work.
