I can't send email now

This is odd! I installed this program, which didn't work so well, so I just deleted the files and closed the terminal window (I'm using Mac OS X 10.4.8). Now, for some reason, I can't seem to send email, although I can receive email. So, this program must have screwed with my ports or something. If anyone has any idea what happened and how I can fix this problem, please reply!!!
