Plz, Help, Which file format should I convert with if I have an HDTV?

Hello,

I have an HDTV, and I know that MPEG4 is better than MPEG2 but only MPEG2 supports outputing a 720p video while the MPEG4 creates a 420p Video.

I don't know much about hkv or mp4.

If I have an HDTV which file should I want to convert to?

Is MPEG4 better than MPEG2 even though it's only in 420p?
or is hkv better?
