Ipod 80gb Classic Screen Resolution

Hi guys,
What settings shall I use to convert films from their original resolution to the Ipod Classic 80gb native resolution of 320x240 (or something like that) because every time I convert films, it cuts of some of the sides of the film.

on the iPod menu: Videos -> Video Settings -> Widescreen

Hows the black quality on the iPods compared to the 5G? Still the same or improved?
