View Full Version : iPod Classic Converter 3.02: Videos always 640x360

Hi all,
I picked up a new 80GB iPod Classic yesterday and am trying to use this software to load up some movies so I'll have them to watch while on a business trip I have coming up. One thing I've noticed is that with the 3.02 version, the output Video Size is around 1.3GB (everything I've read is videos will be under a Gig). So I started looking and found that in iTunes under Get Info on these movies, the Video Dimensions show as 640x360. I thought the output is supposed to be 320x240 (QVGA)? I've used normal mode taking all defaults, and have also switched from "New Format" to "Old Format" to see if that changes it and it doesn't. Have also tried the Power mode and verified that its set for QVGA but still the same. Is this expected on the newer (6th Gen) iPods, or am I misunderstanding what Video Dimensions mean?
BTW: in Normal mode, the filesize estimate shows around 275MB, but as I said, the actual file is 1.3GB. Also the estimates for frames and seconds are incorrect.
The Video produced seems fine, I'm just curious about the filesize and all...

Yes that is a bit odd. We'd need to see a console log to really know whats going on.
Video Size is dependent on your settings. The "iPod" setting should give you QVGA (320x240) video while the "TV" setting will give you VGA (640x480) video.

How do I produce the console log and I'll be happy to provide that to you. BTW: I've tested 2 movies I've ripped and converted and both seem to work perfectly (even with the larger format).
[edit]... Dang, I see this is described in the Sticky on how to create the log. I'll work on getting a log for you and will post it.

Ok, here is the console log. This is using Normal mode and just taking defaults. The output is set for iPod not TV. You can see its setting it to VGA and not QVGA in this log:

Here's another log. This one, I used Normal mode also, but changed the output to be TV instead of iPod (just to see if there was a difference).
Let me know if you need further info...

Ok, last one... Decided to try Power Mode again. This one appears to work (based on the Console log). I'm gong to let this one run to the end to see what actually comes out. But the indication is it will be 320x180 (so a letterbox QVGA video).

Thanks for the logs.
There is indeed a bug present in Normal Mode as your "iPod" size and "TV" size ended up at the same 640x360 resolution. We will fix this in the next version.
