Audio Lag

Did a search before I posted this; I found that some people had the same problem except for different converters.

Any tips/links that might help reduce audio lag when converting specifically for a PSP? I convert with high audio and video quality with enhancement and widescreen. My usual filetype is .avi or .mkv and I consistently get lag.

I'm gonna try a couple more times but I'd appreciate if someone could help me with this. Thank you very much.

The only time I ever get this is when the frame rates for the conversion doesn't match up with the framerates of the original video, eg using a 30fps profile on a video that is actually 23.98. Match them up and see if it helps.

Sounds like that would do it.

But there's a few discrepancies I'm not sure about.

1. My video says its 23 frames per second but there's 2 feasible choices when I go to 'edit profile' and change the frame rate ("Original" and "23.976") Why might it be different? Rounding? Which is best?

2. There's a checkbox that says "Auto framerate Enabled". What does this mean?

3. My video says its Data Rate (which I think is the same as Bit Rate) is 130kbps. That doesn't seem to match anything in the drop down menu for Bit Rate (starts at 192, 256, 384, etc). Am I looking at something wrong and do you think it matters?

All of this info about my video is in its Properties. Maybe its not very accurate... I'll start tweaking the frame rate anyway.

bitrate you don't have to worry about, that's like quality settings.

For framerates, choose the closest one, in your case it probably would be 23.976. those various framerates you see in the droplist are the ones supported by PSP, anything different and you get the nortorious "unsupported data" message on your video.

CORRECTION:I guess I shouldn't have called this thread Audio lag; the audio is too early. Video is fine. Dammit I probably should have said this earlier. Sorry. Once again, video appears fine.

I just don't get why the audio cuts a bit from the beginning and starts early. Are .avis just unreliable? Maybe I'll use mkv more.

Maybe sample rate has something do to with it; maybe its bit rate. I'll do some more tweaking. Thanks for your help so far.
