ok so i'm using the red kawa file server program, and i have issues downloading my files, i can navegate to them just fine but when i click download, i either get an 'insert media' error, or i get a '404' error, is this just a ps3 conversion issue and if so how should i fix it, i'm trying to copy mp3 files or aac files by the way

MP3 is not listed in the manual as an approved video file. I didn't see aac as an approved music file either. Try an MPEG-2 or MPEG-4

The 404 is a network/access error, meaning you can probably correct it by setting up the correct parameters (directories, ip address and correct port, etc.) The insert media error is what I keep getting as well, even when I've converted the files into mpeg4 using Video 9. I'm thinking that if the video file isn't EXACTLY compatible w/ the PS3, it will always give the "insert media" error message.

Do you have any spaces or odd characters in the name of the file? That's the only thing I can think of. I use Video 9 to convert to MPEG-4 and it takes it every time.

I'm sure, I've tried renaming the files to ones w/ underscores or just periods in between. The files are playable using an mp4 player (VLC Media Player), I'm guessing that Winamp can't play mp4s. Cozdiver, what Mpeg4 setting are you using? I've read that the ps3 might need to have all videos in the FLV format....

I use the default MPEG-4 AVC profile, same codex, mode CBR. I've used almost every bitrate from 768 to 4096 and resolutions 640 x 380 to the highest. I use Input fps. No other changes and they've all taken so your problem is something else.

Have you tried putting the file in Media Center\software to see if it will take from some place other than the default output file? I've placed it in numerous places in the Video Converter folder and the Media Center folder and could download them all.

This flv file extension is all screwed up. Documentation for the MCX leads one to believe MCX will play it from the default output folder but it won't. There are posts on this very subject with no solution provided. And, we know flv is not an approved file extension for PS3 so it does no good to copy it to the PS3 hdd. Actually, I think the opposite is true of the suggestion in your last sentence. I can get MPEG-2 or 4 to work but not flv.

I think the intent of MCX may have been to provide us with the capability to play flv files when they reside in the default folder but it obviously doesn't work. Wish I could be more helpful.

Thanks for the input Coz!
I figured out that the problem wasn't w/ the Video 9 conversion, but the server parameters.
You see, I've been switching off from the Abyss Web Server and the RedKawa. The Abyss was what I used to get the MP3 to the PS3 HD. When I tried using RedKawa to transfer the mp3, it gave me the same "Network Error" that I got from the videos. SO......I went and troubleshooted the settings.

Here's the answer:
I had the directory for the RedKawa server set to the actual folder of the files. What I needed was to set the directory above the folder that the files are in.

Here's an example:
Lets say the video files are in the folder [C:/test]
If you set the "Approved Download Directories" to [C:/test] in the RedKawa File Server Settings you will not be able to download the files. You can access the directory, but you wont be able to download. The solution: you have to set the RedKawa File Server Settings to [C:/]. This will allow you to download anything from that directory. At least that's what corrected my problems. I'll mess around more w/ the settings, but so far everything I've downloaded works on the PS3 (as long as I've converted it using Video9). BLEACH LOOKS SO GOOD ON S-VIDEO!!!!

PS - Don't include the brackets for the directory path, that was just meant to encase the directory path that you need to type in....

Thanks again Coz!

Results are in! I've tried setting different parameters for the File Server. Even w/ a different directory, as long as the files are located in a folder WITHIN that directory, you should be able to download it.
