i'm guessing that this is there to allow direct copying to the Playstation 3's hard drive via network.

Is this feature currently implemented, or does the Playstation 3 not have the necessary requirements yet?

Red Kawa File Server does this for you. Download it, install it, and launch the file server. Make sure you edit the settings for proper folder access and home info. After that you can use the internet browser on your ps3 to directly access files on your computer.

Is that the Media Center X software?

and if your just pointing your browser on the Playstation 3 to the IP of your computer, does the Media Center software merely provide a front end for the Playstation 3 for playback?

Being that it's a large chunk of change, i'm wondering if I can use it has a video server for my TV, instead of buying a separate Media Center PC.
