Hey guys, I am new at this and I don't really know what I am doing. I transferred a image to the red kawa folder under pictures >> images now what do I type in the PS3 to get that image?

I typed in the link under where it says Media Center is Active and I got " This Page Cannot Be Displayed"

What do you type in your PS3 address bar?

Use your PS3 browser and type in your IP address. When you run PS3 Media Center X program you will see your IP address.

If you're trying to copy the picture to your PS3 you have to move the pictures to the default approved download directory which is Documents and Settings Any folder under that will work. Why they tell you to place your pictures in the wrong folder I do not know. It will work placing them there but you have to add an approved download directory to the settings to point to it. the tutorial doesn't say that though.

To add an approved download directory launch Media Center then click Settings then Software then Edit Settings. You will see a click here on that page. It will take you to where you add/delete directories. Do all this from your PC.

I know it says to place flv files there in the tutorial but remember, our PS3 manual does not show flv file extensions as approved for copy. However, if placed in the FLV folder you should at least be able to see the file from your PS3. It's just that when you select the file you will get a Insert Storage Media at Save Destination notice. That is saying it does not want to copy it to the hard drive because it is not an approved file type but it's willing to pass it along for you.

If you, in fact, cannot see the flv file then it's something else. Does the name have any spaces? Did you convert using Video 9 to get this flv or did you get it somewhere else?
It really doesn't matter if you think about it since you're not going to get it copied to PS3 anyway. Streaming is not working so, as far as I know, flv files are useless. That may or may not be true but personnally, I have not been able to do anything with them.

I converted the video using Video 9 and I think the filename has a space in it but I didn't think that would matter? Maybe though.

So no video works yet? Also when I click the music on media center it says that Media Center doesnt support music on the PS3 and Wii.

The space does matter, rename.
The Media Center does support music on the PS3 if support is defined as allowing the copy of the file from PC to PS3. It will not support streaming, meaning to play the file which is stored on PC from the PS3 without copy.

To copy music from PC to PS3 using Media Center the files need to reside under an approved download directory. By default this directory is Documents and Settings. The folder My Music happens to be in that folder, right.

You could add Program Files/Media Center as an approved download directory but the easiest way is to simply put the MP3s in My Music and insure the names have no spaces. On the PS3, using it's browser enter your IP address and navigate to My Music. Click on an approved file and follow the instructions which will appear.

I know it's confusing to be told to place MP3s in that Red Kawa music folder. It may have some purpose at some point in the future but for now it's a secret. I have asked and have yet to get an answer. Maybe it will be for streaming. I do know you get that notice when you click on Music. In fact, if you do it from the PC Media Center it gives you the same notice but then goes ahead and plays music with a player that appears. That would be great if it did that from the PS3.

Try to describe the last few steps, what you see and what it's showing vs what you expected to see. For example, can you get the START page on the PS3 when you put in the IP? Can you navigate to where the files are stored? Where is that? ETC ETC.

I put my music file in the music folder where the Red Kawa folder is and nothing shows up, should my music be in my Documents and Settings folder or should my music be in My Music under documents and settings?

Are you sure you have Media Center launched on your PC? Let me go over that a little bit. First, you kick off the Media Center Program on your PC and a small box opens, the MC console. Then you launch PS3 Media Center X by clicking on it in the box. Once that's done you should see a blue screen and it will say START with some file names displayed. Are you getting this far? You have to complete this before going to the PS3 and opening it's browser. You key in your IP address into the PS3 browser You get it from the MC console box on your PC. This should bring up the same looking page on your TV monitor as you see on your PC monitor (the blue START page). How much of this seems in sync with what you're doing?

To answer your last question, it doesn't really make any difference which of the two folder you place music. You should at least be able to see the file if everything else is ok, i.e. valid PS3 file and name passes PS3 edits. The difference of which folder to place the music files in, is important when it comes to copying from PC to PS3. When you want to do this you have to place the files in an approved download directory. Unless you've added or changed it, the default directory is Documents and Settings. Any approved files in any folder under Documents and Settings will provide you with the opportunity to copy when you click on a file. Placing in them in the Red Kawa Music folder will NOT allow you to copy. But, again you should have been able to at least see the file.

Ok, that's good so far. So, you can now see the START page on your PS3 browser. That means you have connectivity between the 2 units. Now click on the My Files line on the START (Home) page. On the page that appears you will see a dot dot .. line at the top. When you click on the .. (dot dot) line you go back to a higher order folder. If you click on it a few times you will arrive at a page having Documents and Settings as a line. Click on Documents and Settings and navigate to the folder containing your music. Click on a music file and follow the instructions that appear. If you're familiar with the folder structure of PCs you won't have any trouble.
If, at some point, you click on a .. dot dot line and nothing happens, drop down one line then move up to the .. line and click it again. That should navigate you back toward the folder you're looking for.

Alright I got my music settled! Thank you cozdiver you have been alot of help and I really appreciate it. Is there a way I can access my files straight on my desktop instead of having to get my files out of my Documents and Settings folder?

Yes, provided I understand your question correctly. You'd rather access files from some other folder rather than the default Documents and Settings folder, right?

If that is the case, then you have to add a directory (folder address) to the list of approved download directories. To do that, on your PC with the MCX launched, click Settings then Software then Edit Settings and look for a click here. When you click that a page open allowing you to add the directory where your files are located. The directory address should be at least one folder higher than the folder containing the files.

Once you've added the new directory you'll be able to access and copy them but you will still have to navigate to them beginning from the same page you start from now. I added the following directory address myself C:\Program Files\Red Kawa so I can copy videos from the appropiate default output folder created by Video 9.

If that's not your question, sorry, maybe try again to get through to me.

I was exploring around and I have added many directories so far including my desktop. But now when I go to save pictures for some reason I get a message saying an error has occured. It seems like once I figure out one thing I get another problem.

I agree, both MCX and PS3 are picky, unforgiving and void of descriptive notices when they find things they do not like. That's why for pictures I pass them over with a DVD+RW disk, much faster and if it doesn't copy I know which unit is unhappy.
Good luck!

But howcome some pictures save and some of them don't? I find that awkward. I also put a dvd in my computer and encoded it with DVD Shrink and then I converted it over to MP4 format and when I went to download I downloaded it but then when I clicked it under videos in my PS3 it said unknown or unsupported format or something like that.

Not sure why some pics save and some do not. Make sure each is either a JPG, TIFF, BMP, GIF or PNG, no spaces or special characters. Is this occurring when you copy wirelessly or when you walk them over?

What files in the VIDEO TS folder are you converting? I just do the vob files and they convert and play ok. You didn't say how you uploaded it to the PS3.

Although I stick with 720 x 480 to simulate the vob resolution I found, as you did, it just takes too long. I gave up on the process and just play the DVD in my OPPO upscale player.

About all you can do to minimize time is keep resolution and bitrate as close to the original file as possible so the converter doesn't have to spend time building and filling in.

Thanks, this really helped me :D. I was pretty confused, but now every thing's perfect.

But, can I download video files on my PS3, too? And if I could, could they only be MPEG-4?

EDIT: Actually, just did a little research. I've converted and uploaded and played a video on my PS3 now, so dont worry about that question. PS3 is so awesome :D.

When I converted it to MP4 format the video quality was terrible, how was the quality for you?

I put it on my PS3 by converting it then I put the file in my desktop and opened up media center x then downloaded it from there on my PS3 online. How do you do it? Through a flash drive?

The quality of my videos were good when converted, about Medium Quality(MQ), more or less.

I used the conversion settings found here: http://www.redkawa.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=4&d=1167498439

I put the converted files in My Videos(where My Musci would be located). I have Red Kawa Media Center bookmarked in my PS3, so I just went on, pressed My Files, navigated to My Videos, clicked on the one I wanted, and it commences download after pressing start.

I dont think you can use a flash drive for something like this; I had tried before, but to no avail.

You can use a flash/thumb drive, DVD, CD or memory card as long as the file will fit on the media. I place the video file in a folder called VIDEO and it works for me. Actually, if the file is real big I prefer to burn a data DVD, walk it over and copy, much faster.

For me personally, this MCX server will not realize it's full potential until streaming is incorporated. Now that will be cool!!!!!!!!!
