Support for subtitles is a request we hear often in the forums. While Videora iPod Converter has always supported subtitles since its early days, this support has come in the form of requiring users to manually create custom AviSynth scripts for each file.

Improved Subtitle Support
In version 3.06, we have automated this process so you no longer have to create these AviSynth scripts yourself. Videora iPod Converter will automatically detect if your video has an associated SUB, SRT, ASS or SSA file of the same filename. If it finds one of these subtitle formats, it will then use AviSynth and VSFilter to add these subtitles to your video.

Burned-In/Hard Subtitles
All subtitles are “burned” into the video, meaning when you play them back, you will not be able to turn the subtitles off. The iPod does not have soft subtitle support so the only way to have subtitles show up is by “burning” them into the video.

Video Codec Support
You must be able to play your video in Windows Media Player if you want to use Videora iPod Converter’s subtitle support. This is because like Windows Media Player, AviSynth depends on the same DirectShow video codecs to decode your video. If these codec are not present, your video will not convert and you will end up with a no video and a message in red text saying that it could not find the right video codecs.

Multi-channel (5.1) Audio Support
If you are converting a video with a 5.1 audio track, your DirectShow audio decoder must be explicitly set to output 2 channel audio (stereo). To do this with ffdshow, open the ffdshow audio decoder configuration (Start > ffdshow > audio decoder configuration), click Mixer at the bottom of the left hand menu, check the box beside “Mixer” and set the Output speaker configuration to “2/0 – stereo”. Hit the apply button and then the ok button.

No Single File MKV Support
Videora iPod Converter will not convert subtitles found within an MKV file. If you convert an MKV video with no separate subtitle file in the same directory, the video will convert without the subtitles.

MKV + Subtitle File Support
In order to convert an MKV file with subtitles, you must extract the subtitles from the MKV first, rename the subtitle file to match the MKV file name and then convert the video in Videora iPod Converter. To extract subtitles from an MKV file you will need the mkvtoolnix (http://www.videohelp.com/tools/MKVtoolnix) and mkvextractgui (http://www.videohelp.com/tools/MKVExtractGUI).

MKV Video Codec Support
Remember, you must be able to play the MKV file in Windows Media Player to use subtitle support. Just because the video plays in Media Player Classic does not mean it plays in Windows Media Player. If you cannot play the file in Windows Media Player, try using CCCP (http://www.cccp-project.net/).

So if they have same name let say something.avi and something.sub it auto compresses them together? Also does auto subtitling work with .smi files?

The man said SUB, SRT, ASS or SSA.

I like the Burned-In Subtitles, but what's the "Captions" option on my Classic for then?

Captioning is a subtitle usually encoded on line 21 of the vertical interval of an NTSC video signal... it can either be a closed caption, in which case you can turn it on or off, or an open caption... which is always on.

There is no SMI (nor PSB) support in 3.06. We hadn't even heard of this format until yesterday. The good news is that VSFilter handles this format so it should be simple enough to add SMI (and PSB) support in 3.07.

I am using 3.06
Using the same MKV file, I have no problem encoding with no subs but once i enable AviSynth or subtitles, a few seconds after I start the encoding, it always give me an error.

"Your video failed to convert. Error Code: 101804"

This error code is not found in the troubleshooting guide.
This error only appears if I enable AviSynth and/or subtitles with a same sub file name.

It's an ASS file i extracted from a MKV. I have no problem watching it. But I cannot convert any mkv with subs for my ipod. Is there something I must do to the AviSynth folder which is empty?

101804 - "Resampling with input channels greater than 2 unsupported"

Read the Multi-channel (5.1) Audio Support heading in the original post.

I'm really excited to have this subtitle support. :D Anyway, it says you must be able to play the video in Windows Meda Player to be able to use the subtitle support. At first, the file didn't work in WMP so I downloaded the CCCP & it now works just fine in WMP. However, it still won't convert. Did I do something wrong or does it still not work for that file?

EDIT: Ok...so...NONE of my video that have soft-subtitles are converting. All of them can open up in WMP but none of them are converting. The files are .avi files & the subs are either .ssa, .ass or .srt. I have the feeling it might be the codec (all of them are DivX) but I don't know how to make that work. Can someone help me please??

At the bottom of the review of the Classic, they indicate that this feature is comparable to DVD subtitles.

I'm very pleased with the quality of product rendered (especially the exact synch of video & audio) from using the Videora iPod Converter. Thank you for your presence on the web! Other freeware (Free DVD Ripper 2.25) I tried automatically processed subtitles but also created a multi-second delay between video & audio.

I've been creating/editing audio for years (primarily using Audacity), but am rather new on the video side and have a question on the utilization of Videora's subtitle functionality.

What's the easiest (and cheapest) way to create the separate, associated SUB, SRT, ASS or SSA file of the same filename as my video? I really depend on subtitles these days to catch all the audio in a movie. My, how the baby boomers have aged...

I still have the actual DVD (Adam Sandler's Eight Crazy Nights) in front of me and have also retained the VOB file as ripped by DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again!

I noticed that Red Kawa states that in ver 3.06 , if you have an srt file in the same place as your video file (with both having the same names) that it automatically converts with the subtitle file you have using AVIsynth. The problem is, I've tried 5 different video files with appropriate srt file names. But, all that happens is it begins to convert then finishes in 5 seconds with a very small mp4 file. I have yet to see this program behave any differently when trying to convert with the srt files... Anyone know another way around this? I've googled till my eyes were sore, and this subtitles problem with the Ipod seems to be currently unresolved. Help!

You probably have an issue with your source video that is unrelated to the subtite feature. Try converting the same video without the subtitle file present and see what happens... and maybe post your results in one of the actual "support forums". This isn't one.

Can you also put subtitles on a movie on your iPod when you have version 3.05?
I want to convert a avi-file to mp4 and put subtitles on it. The subtitles are in a .srt-file.
Can you give me some information about version 3.05 and the possibility with subtitles?

Why not use the current version... which has newer subtitle support??

I'm very happy with version 3.05, the subtitles didn't work but other things works fine.
So, I don't want to download a newer version if it is not necessary.

So can you please answer my question and tell me about the possibility's with version 3.05 and putting subtitles on your iPod?

I dunno. I don't do subtitles and I try not to support older versions when I know there are newer ones out that have published bug fixes.

I have downloaded the latest version of Videora (version 3.07) and I wanted to convert a .avi-file with a .srt-file, but it wouldn't work. :(

There are only 7 seconds of the movie and no subtitles. Can you tell me the possibility's with version 3.07 and subtitles please?

I can't get subtitles to work either. I normally convert in Power Mode and I have edited the profile to select "Avisynth enabled" and "subtitle" but the subtitles are not being included in the converted file. I am using the iPod touch converter.

Can anyone please outline the steps that I need to follow to get the subtitles to work ? The subtitles are in .srt file in the same directory as the original video and has the same name as the avi file.

thanks,

Chris

Is it true that you need a codec like DivX on your computer to put subtitles on your video file with Videora iPod Converter?

Hi everybody,
excuse me if I write this here, but I have a problem posting in the appropriate section:
Videora iPod Converter (3.x) [5G/classic/nano/touch]
I have a conversion problem I would like to talk about in order to (hopefully) get some help but it doesn't allow me to add a new thread there... The only section of the forum that works with me is this...
So, may I?
