I'm not here to start a flame war, or hurt anyone's feelings, but I am here to give a few pointers to improve the software. Don't get me wrong, this is free and I can't really complain, but I really feel the need to. This software is kinda irritating, well at least the GUI.
Let me start off by introducing myself: I've been in the website hosting industry for a while now, so I've actually developed a few PHP software systems for private use so I understand the frustration of having problems with the software. I have always liked to hear feedback from end-users to make sure the software is exactly how everyone wants it, keeping in mind that this was software developed for free.
I've got to be honest about something here. I don't mind the ads at all, but you know, basing your software on, I guess you could call it, webpages, it not a good idea, at all. Within reason, this has to be the slowest software I have ever dealt with. Not conversion, I understand that's based solely on your processing power, but the fact that it's based on what seems to be the Internet Explorer engine is just, no. It's slow, clumsy and most importantly, just insane to base it on this. It's really cool how the software is interfaced with the engine; that's a cool idea none-the-less, but you guys should really develop this just like any other software title that has ever been out. Whatever language it was developed under, just make a GUI out of that. Seriously. It would be 10x better that way because you wouldn't rely on an ancient technology. I'm sure there's a way to integrate the ads somehow. You could probably just make the whole program out of the language's available tools, but stick in some Internet Explorer code to include the ads at the top.
Let's talk about the conversion tab. There are a lot of things missing from that. One, if possible, pause. I really don't feel like cancelling an entire movie conversion, as my processor is really slow, just to check my e-mail. Yes, yes, I know. I can use my iPod to do that, but that's beside the point.
Again, on the conversion tab. Where is the detail showing what folder the movie is being converted to? I physically lost a movie amongst my files because I accidentally chose the wrong folder, and had no idea where it was at. The same thing needs to be under the conversion queue.
Moving on, if you took my idea about using the GUI tools to make the conversion process smoother, I would seriously donate money. I feel the need to anyways just because it's such a good piece of software, which contradicts what I've been saying, so can it, but I cannot stand how when I click on the Simple mode, it lags. It lags after every freaking step. I want to click that button, and within 1ms it renders the entire GUI. That's the Internet Explorer engine at it's best. You click, the page turns white, my PC lags, then it renders it about 400ms later. It's a small lag, but it's a lag, none-the-less...
One other complain. You guys should really add a thing where it remembers the last folder you chose to save the file, instead of defaulting back to the output directory every time. I had to convert about 30 files and it was pretty irritating to keep choosing the same folder over and over.
Listen, don't think I'm a troll or anything. This was not what I was here to do. I was here to help the developers improve their software just based off of a set of suggestions. If I offended anyone, I apologize. There isn't any reason to be upset about what I said considering I'm trying to help the software.
Thank you for listening to me whine about free software.
