View Full Version : Problems with 4.02 Suggestions?

I've been using previous versions of the videora converter for the last year with very few problems. When I tried upgrading to 4.02 yesterday, I initially ran into some installation problems. After reading the post regarding the .xml files, I was able to solve those and get a clean install.
However, now when I try and convert videos one of two things happens. In the first instance, the progress bar jumps to 99% and then sits there for approximately the amount of time it takes to typically convert a video of the size I'm working with. Once the conversion finishes, though, there is no video, only audio. The audio sounds fine and is of the appropriate lenght, but no video at all. In fact, the file gets added to itunes music folder.
In the second instance, sometimes the progress bar will move at it's normal rate up to 99% and other times it simply jumps to 99%. In both cases, the converter simply sits indefinitely at 99%. I've only let it sit for 5 hours before cancelling, but I don't think a longer period of time would have made a difference. The file will be in the destination folder and be of appropriate size. However, when I attempt to play it, I get an error message that Quicktime doesn't recognize the file type.
I've tried multiple conversion codecs in both normal and power modes on videos of varying lenghts. Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks for the help.

I'm nt a tech or anything but just wanted to ask if you have VLC Media Player? If not, download it (its free) and see if its able to play your files. I've had files that Winamp and iTunes wouldn't play properly but VLC would.
I know this doesnt help you get them on your iPod though. :)

Having VLC won't tell you much. It uses it's own internal codecs which may make it able to play things other players won't... but if the file doesn't play in Windows Media Player using the windows codecs... it won't convert properly.

Thanks for the responses, I was beginning to think I was all on my own. The files play fine in both Windows Media player and Media Center. I've even tried converting files that I had already converted and played successfully before upgrading to 4.02. I'm running XP, by the way.
Here is a little more detail after additional investigation. The problem seems to be in the conveter identifying the video. If I view the conversion details under conversion progress, it lists the total length of the video needing to be converted as
4s no matter what the length of the video is. I'm assuming this is why the progress bar jumps to 99%.
Last night I hopefully downloaded 4.03. Before doing so I unistalled 4.02 and the YouTube downloader, then ran a search for any files with Red Kawa in the designation and deleted those as well. 4.03 installed with no problems, I checked the new xml files for capital "P"'s, but in the end I ran into the same problem. I attempted to convert using every single profile from the drop down menu in the power mode with the same results. I then tried changing the default profile to generic FFmpeg VI from the default ipod 1-Pass - FFmpeg VINB. In this case it identified the full video length and ran through a full conversion. However, the final Quicktime file again displayed a mention that it was in a format Quicktime couldn't understand. I can continue to try and alter settings to find a solution, however, since I've had no problems converting for a year with previous versions of this software, I feel that the solution should be simpler than that.
I'm not familiar with VLC, however, I'm not sure that it would benefit me. My only purpose for converting these files is to watch them on my iphone while away from home. At home, I watch them in Media Center or on Windows Media Player.
I also tried another application called Quick Media Converter. It converted the files with no problem. However, the audio in is 2 seconds out of sync and that software gives no option for adjustion that. So, I'd really like figure out a way to make Videora work for me again.
Anyone?

I too having exactly the same symptoms...4.01 worked fine. 4.02 jumping to 99% and not converting video. Will try 4.03 today.
4.01 also allowed conversion of Media Centre DVR-MS files (by selecting show all files in file dialog box), but 4.02 jumps to 99% for DVR-MS files as well and doesn't convert properly.
the standard FFMPEG exe as well as mediainfo recognise DVR-MS files so not sure why it's not working with 4.02 (assuming newer versions of those modules would retain dvr-ms compat?)

It would appear that it is just the DVR-MS files that are a problem with both 4.02 and 4.03. I don't understand why, since I have had no trouble converting those files for the past year on older versions of the software. I tried converting a DIVX file last night and it completed with no problems.
Does anyone know if the DVR-MS conversion was deliberately designed out of the updates or simply an unintended consequence? Any way around it?
