Tried converting video, but it cannot be put in my iTunes Library?

I have been pulling my hair out over this for nearly a week. I have just one 22-minute video that I want to put onto my iPod Nano 4G. I Have tried so damn many converters to make it MPEG-4 so that it is compatible with the iPod. I have even tried doing it through iTunes and it took over an hour to do. I was really happy then when I got to seeing if it worked on my iPod...it had no sound.:mad:

I am truly at my wits end with this and it has become beyond a joke. Please, please, please can anyone help me?
