hey guys, i'm new to this, so any help would be appreciated. i've managed to use ps3video9 encoder successfully for quite a while now, but one thing that happened recently has stumped me. i've encoded all my movies so far, but one that i just recently purchased i can't seem to transcode. I just bought superman returns on dvd and i want to put a backup on my ps3. i've successfully ripped it, but when i try to use ps3v9 to transcode, it says conversion complete right after i hit start, and ofcourse there is no output file whatsoever. i thought maybe i had some kind of problem with the app, but i went back and successfully transcoded several other files in the same manner. it just seems to be this one movie. anyone else experiencing similar problems? anyone have any suggestions?

Are you converting the vob files only? I can convert all vobs that I've tried though it be but a few due to the length of time it takes. Also, don't like having to kick off a new file every 20 minutes or so when playing the movie. Never figured out how to connect multiple files, not that it would do any good as they would be over 4 gig in most cases.
It's been my experience that Video 9 goes almost immediately to completion leaving a 0 KB file when it doesn't like the codex used to build the file in the container, in this case, the vob container. For example, Video 9 converts all avi files for me except the ones out of my camera. It completes almost immediately when I try. What I have to do is use Windows Movie Maker to convert the avi to avi. The avi created by Windows Movie Maker Video 9 likes and will convert. You could process a Superman vob with a program like G Spot Video ID to identify what codex was used and compare it against those that converted ok.

Check my siggy, it'll get your segmented VOBs to one file, but that one file will end up being an AVI file.
Lots of reading so be prepared. You'll understand why DVDs where like that.

i use dv tool to merge the vob files together, then i transcode using ps3v9...i have used this method successfully with about 15 or so of my other movies...thanks for the heads up on the codec/container issue, i'll check my video files and see what's goin on there. 1 other thing i wasn't quite sure on, vob's ripped off of dvd's, aren't they all encoded using mpeg-2? if they are, then i'm still stumped on why this one particular movie won't transcode....i have tried transcoding the individual vob files before i run them through dvtool, and same result...says completed after 1 second with no output file or a 0kb file.
