Videora iPod Converter has been extremely long overdue for an update. It’s been over a year since the release of version 0.91 and quite a few months since the release of the latest version of Videora IC2 Alpha. After the Apple TV was announced, we started working on Videora Apple TV Converter and decided to simultaneously develop a new version of Videora iPod Converter as well. While we still have a bit of work to do on Videora Apple TV Converter, we are happy to release a beta version of Videora iPod Converter today.

This new version of Videora iPod Converter has been completely rewritten compared to the old 0.92 version and features numerous enhancements. While we have tested it internally and feel that it is ready for public use, it is still a work in progress which is why we’re temporarily calling it a beta. We've made tons of changes (too many to list!) but you can find out the major new features below.

Major GUI Enhancements – The first thing you’ll notice is the GUI has been changed around a lot. The entire thing has been redesigned using the 2.0 CLR which should fix some display issues. Unfortunately this means that the software is no longer multi-lingual and is only available in English. This is something we hope to change down the road with volunteer translators..

New Conversion Core – We have replaced the very very old (late 2005) version of FFmpeg with a much newer version (Feb 2007) compiled straight from SVN. This should bring a little better codec compatibility and possibly better quality videos.

Improved Progress Bar – We've made a number changes under the hood which should hopefully produce a more accurate conversion progress bar and should put an end to the common "stuck at 100%" issue found in 0.92.

640x480 H.264 Support – When the iPod 5.5G was announced back in September 2006, a new version of the iPod firmware (1.2) was released allowing owners of both 5G and 5.5G to enjoy higher resolution videos. While this makes almost no difference when watching videos on the actual iPod, it will make a significant difference when watching videos on your TV through your iPod. Up until now, Videora iPod Converter has only been able to do 640x480 in MPEG-4 and only 320x240 in H.264. Now, Videora iPod Converter can convert into 640x480 in H.264 as well.

New Profile Options – The Add/Edit Profiles section has now been moved to its own window which will make it much easier to add more options in the future. The entire profile system has been redesigned which unfortunately means you will have to rewrite all your custom profiles from scratch as they cannot be imported.

AutoResize Functionality – Prevents videos from looking squished by automatically picking the best resolution allowable while maintaining the videos original aspect ratio. Even when enabled, this feature is only used if your video is larger than the maximum allowable resolution.
