Ok, with 1.74 all I needed to do was set the bitrate to 640 and the video would come out great. But now with 2.25, my videos look like crap even with 768kbps. And when I try using "PSP 1 Pass ffmpeg_MH MI" the video looks good playing it on the computer but then it says unsupported data. I just want to know what settings I should use to get a good quality video? Could someone post a profile for me?

I have firmware 3.30 and I am converting a widescreen video.

Everything i've been using is the base profiles that came with the software. You're getting unsupported data because there's a settings that's not supported by the PSP. Read my sticky for more info on that. The PSP can be really picky. Quality wise, i don't know what to tell you. Just bring up the bitrate of the video or do 2-pass, but you also gotta realize that if your video was crappy quality to begin with, it ain't gonna get any better. Also, transcoding and encoding will always drop the quality a certain amount.

Well I'm no noob to video conversion. I have tried using the original profiles provided as well but in the end, the video just looks like crap. I got one to look very good but I had to set the bitrate to 1500 to get that quality. I just don't get it. Before in 1.74 a 640-kbps video was look fine. Now 768 looks bad. I don't get why it is doing this?

Actually I just did 4 test runs with different settings and it seems as though the 2 pass looks alright. I am still somewhat dissatisfied though. I have access to 2 computers and the one that I use mostly runs pretty slow. It takes about 40-50 minutes to run and a 2 pass would be about 1 1/2 hours of waiting just to get a 20 minute video. I tested the 2 pass on the one I normally don't use so I don't even know if it will do any good back on my normal computer. I used to use a 1 pass on the older version and it came out looking fine. I don't think this extra trouble is worth it just to get a full resolution video. I still have to test back on my computer to see if it does the job properly...

Ok, nevermind this stuff. I have it all figured out. I tested it and 640 at 2 Pass does the job. I have more complicated reasons for originally thinking it was messed up. Sorry.

I still have a question though, it takes too long to try so I figured I would just ask. In the bitrate part of the profile settings where you choose your bitrate from the list, it seems as though you can just type it in as well. I have never actually tried doing so, or at lesat not with this new version. I was just wondering if I could just type in 400kbps and have it convert at that rate or if I actually need to select one from the list? It would help a lot to know the answer because I am setting up my profiles now.

bleh had to type a long post like 3 time... not sure why it's not holding...screen shots and everything on one of my video.

So what I was trying to say is that I don't know what could be wrong. I don't normally do live action videos, it's rare since I only deal with anime which tends to make it hard to tell quality wise since colors tend to be "flat" if that makes any sense. See screen shots below of RE: Extinction. There will be obvious difference between what I have put together and the downloaded version. You can download the PSP verison through sony when you buy the special DVD edition. I also had to jump a few loops to get it to avi since I'm not a fan of straight VOB to MP4. In my eyes, the only time you'll see that quality is "crappy" is when there's too much stuff going on in the screen like the third picture with the fire and stuff. But other than that, I think the quality on the first two pictures is pretty good. yes those are indeed black bars on top and below the video. Padding is another story and something I haven't even touched yet.

Profile I used was:
Fw3.30+ AVC 480x272 768kbps Stereo/128kbps
Nothing changed other than threads to speed up the conversion process because the system I have a quad core system.

If typing it in sticks when you save it..... sure. I don't type stuff in. You're free to try. I don't usually type in stuff because all it takes is a wrong settings and your video is instant "unsupported data" and then you've just wasted X amount of time transcoding.

Ok, I did it in the last version I had and 400 kbps worked. I used it on low action, live videos like Seinfeld and what not and it looked fine. I guess if it accepts it then it should work.

I found a download for 1.74 in case I have troubles at any time or if I don't have time to wait for an ungodly long conversion.

Although I'm just curious, how long do your conversions usually take? I mean for a 24 minute video or something, how long does it usually take?

Thanks.

Because I have a quad core system with threads set it usually just takes less than 5-15 mins for a ~30 min video.
