I recently converted some videos with PS3 Video 9 version 4.08 using "Power Mode". I selected PS3 for the device and used "Video Wizard" for the profile. I converted a batch of about 30 files, all 25 minutes each so conversion took well over 24 hours but when I went to the folder which they were in (connecting my external HDD to the PS3, which works fine for other videos) it said there were no video files which I found odd as they were all present and played properly on my laptop.

I then tried changing the extension of one of the files to .avi as opposed to .mp4 and it seemed to play ok on my PS3 (I only watched a minute or so to confirm it was working) and all the mp4 files now showed up, but as incompatible files so I changed the extension on all the files to avi, but then when I reconnected my external HDD to my PS3 the files all showed up as corrupted data and the PS3 wouldn't play them including the one which it would before which I find quite bizarre.. I then tried changing some of them back to mp4 and the mp4 files again came up as incompatible data and the avi files remained as corrupt.

Next I tried using some different conversion profiles to convert a couple of files (device still set to PS3), MPEG-4 AVC 480p 1024kbps Stereo/160kbps for one, Xvid 480p 1024kbps Stero/192kbps for the other and I tried both files on my PS3 both as mp4s and avis but again the mp4s showed up as incompatible and the avis showed up as corrupted data. I tried copying the files onto my PS3 to play them directly off the PS3 HDD as well just in case that had something to do with the problem but as I suspected it didn't.

As I say, all the files seem to play ok on my laptop so they're certainly being converted to something but my PS3 just can't seem to understand them... My PS3 is firmware version 2.80, any help would be appreciated.

When you select Video on the PS3 does it recognize your USB hard drive? if so just press green triangle when the USB is highlighted, then select show all, and all your video file should appear.

If you read my post properly you'd see that this isn't the problem. I know how to get to the video files just fine; as I said I play videos off my external HDD all the time, the problem here is that the PS3 simply doesn't understand the converted files.

Perhaps other people could confirm whether this is an isolated incident or if everyone who tries converting files with PS3 Video 9 4.08 to play on a 2.80 PS3 runs into the same problem? I'll try converting some other videos at some point to confirm whether the problem is something to do with PS3 Video 9 not understanding the videos properly.

I believe changing the file extension to .avi will corrupt the file however you can resolve this by simply changing it back to .mp4.
I too have this same issue that the files are visible but show as unsupported data. I have tried various settings with no luck.
I have also noticed that .avi and .wmv files seem to show and play fine. I'm now in the process of trying to convert to one of the above using an alternative piece of software however I would much prefer to use this one.
I would appreciate it if someone can shed some light on this too?

I'm using version 5.03 of PS3 Video 9 and have OS 3.* on my PS3.

Cheers

Watch out the format!
When you convert it,You should choose mp4 format,or else it may not support it,as a result,it can't be seen in your psp.^_^
