Currently I'm sorta working on a common ground for both PSP and iPod in terms of settings. I say sorta because I'm only doing this on my spare time, which I don't have a lot of. I don't guarantee that these settings will work as most of the stuff I deal with is anime, but at least this will give people something to start with if they just want to do one conversion that will work for both the iPod and PSP... and eventually Zune.

Devices I'm using.
-80gb iPod - 6th Generation version 1.1
-PSP running CFW 3.90 (doesn't matter on official vs CFW)
-Zune 2.2 build 1145

Video using
The openning theme to Big Bang Beat (game). op.mpg
640x480 @ 7966kbps
ffdshow Audio Decoder
MPEG video Decoder

Eventually I'll do Zune but right now the zune software is ticking me off as it does its own conversion upon syncing so using red kawa become somewhat moot.

As said before I'm trying to find a common ground between PSP and iPod but personally I would eventually want my Zune to be my primary video player and my iPod my primary music player... so I might as well post information that will work for both devices until i figure out why the zune software converts on my system and not my friend's system with the same video...

Self notes:
*Totally different story and different video...Seems like Videos converted from Videora iPod Converter (classic) will work for the PSP using the profile H.264 QVGA 768kbps Stereo/128kbps. The video I used had a resolution of 704x396 which with the iPod converter and noted profile, ended up with a video that was 320x180. While this may be fine for the iPod, this is pretty small on the PSP unless you use other display mode.

*With PSP Video 9, it seems like if you use the 2.80+ MPEG4 320x240 768kbps Stereo/128kbps profile, the resulted video can be seen by both PSP and iPod. I will have to try other profiles to see if results are the same. This looks fine on the iPod but is still small for the PSP but much bigger than the Videora route.

Profiles to try on PSP Video9:
Fw3.30+ AVC 480x272 768kbps Stereo/128kbps (iPod didn't accept this)
Fw3.30+ AVC 480x272 768kbps Stereo/128kbps (iPod didn't accept this even with resolution change to 320x240)
Fw3.30+ AVC 480x272 768kbps Stereo/128kbps (Works: change the video codec to MPEG4 instead of MPEG4-AVC and resolution to 320x240)
Fw3.30+ AVC 480x272 768kbps Stereo/128kbps (Works: change the video codec to MPEG4 instead of MPEG4-AVC and resolution to left at 480x272)
Fw2.00+ AVC 320x240 768kbps Stereo/128kbps (bleh forgot 2.0+ profiles is hosed)
Fw2.80+ MPEG4 320x240 768kbps Stereo/128kbps (works)
Fw2.80+ AVC 320x240 768kbps Stereo/128kbps (iPod didn't accept this)
Fw1.50+ MPEG4 320x240 768kbps Stereo/128kbps (works)
*starting to wonder if AVC is not acceptable to iPod

*Learned that the MPEG4 video codec doesn't support multi-threading... only 1 of xx cores where used versus up to roughly 4-5 with MPEG4-AVC. That's unfortunate... Must update sticky when I get a chance...

Thoughts...
MPEG4 + 480x272
While this works for both PSP and iPod, your video will look "smaller" on your iPod due to the resolution but your video will fill up the tire screen of your PSP.

MPEG4 + 320x240
This is somewhat the complete opposite, while your video fits fine on your iPod, the video will be smaller on your PSP but you can be somewhat compensate by changing the screen mode. A little bit of the video will be cut on the top and bottom though. * Tried another video and it looked fine for top and bottom but was cut on the left and right. I like this better.

Might end up dropping the use of Videora iPod Converter.... this grayness deal is kinda annoying. If you must, just use an MPEG4 profile and not an h.264 profile. We'll see.....

H.264 QVGA 768kbps Stereo/128kbps (works but getting gray issue which is known)
H.264 VGA 768kbps Stereo 128kbps (Unsupported Data on PSP unknown video coded and possibly resolution)
MPEG4 QVGA 768kbps Stereo/128kbps (works, didn't see anything unusual)
MPEG4 VGA 768kbps Stereo 128kbps (Unsupported Data on PSP possibly resolution but video codec is reconized)
