I've been using PSP Video 9 2.25 for the last month with hit or miss results; I mainly used the standard 480X272 conversion mode. My latest issue involves converting DVD files to MPEG4-AVC. I've successfully converted about 3 DVD files (not entire movies, just chapters within a movie). I've been using DVD decrypter in IFO mode to save files to my computer. After converting one of these DVD files using PSP 9 the converted file stays pretty much the same size as the original file (no problems here).
Today I tried getting my Kill Bill vol. 1 dvd on my psp. I did everything as mentioned in the above paragraph. Since this was a larger file, I had DVD decrypter break the movie up into 1GB files (total size of the whole movie was about 4.3GB). I converted them all and transferred them to the psp; the movie plays through from start to finish, but...........
PSP 9 compressed each 1GB file to around 170mb; I don't understand how this is happening.
I tried a different approach and saved a few chapters from the movie individually using DVD decrypter and converted them with PSP9 individually as well and got the same result (i.e., a dvd file starting out as 100mb is compressed to about 15mb after PSP 9 is done with it).
I'm worried that I'm loosing major picture quality since the psp movie file is smaller than a quarter of the size of the original dvd file.
Are any others having this problem?
Can anyone explain why this is happening?
Is there a fix?
