Is it possible or would the video have to be in widescreen format already? Also if possible, what setting would I have to set the converter at?

i have no idea what you mean in your first question... but as for the secon part - if you have a widescreen video, the best way to keep maximum width would be enabling "total pixels" setting in edit profile > general > auto resize, and using mpeg4 profile

if i understand correctly how it works it should use pixelcount limit instead resolutionlimit and thus allow you to exceed 640 width and still produce ipod-compatibile video

I should've worded it better...If you have say a movie that is in a widescreen format...how do you convert it so it retains the widescreen format on the Ipod...I recently converted a movie and the image came out squeezed together...

Turn widescreen ON in the iPod's Video settings menu. I ran into this myself... converted a video countless times before I discovered it was the iPod itself crunching the video display mode up.
