A new media center that runs on Windows, Mac and Unix that allows you download media files from your PC to you PS3 (and Wii) and plays mp3's on your PS3 - the mp3 player actually works ;-)
It's really easy to configure and all the instructions are online!
It does all that Red Kawa media center does plus more... visit www.vilvic.com to download (it's free - and I don't even ask for a donation!)
Features include;
* browsing a single directory
* browsing folders and sub folders
* favourites (links to your favourite web sites)
* music (play mp3's on your PS3 and Wii)
* last.fm (links to last.fm with your favourite artists)

Now has support for large files (19gb successfully downloaded from PC to PS3).
In this release...
* Added support for very large files - should be able to handle files up to 8388607 terrabytes!. (in theory).
* When the PS3 sends a request to VMC for a file there is a header placed at the beginning of this file. In this header it specifies the size of the file. It appears if this number is 4294967296L (4gb) or bigger then the file fails to download. So the solution to the problem is to not return the file size for files equal to or bigger than 4gb. What happens for files of 4gb is that the progress bar goes straight to 100% but you will notice that circle thing in the top right is rotating. It is actually downloading at this point. When it has finsihed you will get the usual message that the download has complete. The strange thing is that it reports that the file is 0k but fortunately it is lying. Go to the video menu on the PS3 and check the file size and it's the correct size.
* Out of interest on my local PC the through put is approximately 4Mb per second.
* Removed the attribute replacespaces from directories and folders (it served no purpose).

Fixed the problem of mp3's streaming. Broke this when I fixed the large file problem.
Everything appears ok now.
I did say this was beta.

Added automatic playlists when entering mp3 folders and directories. This allows you to play the mp3 files in a folder without having to set anything up.

Vilvic media center seems to be working well on my Wii. So far I have tested it with MP3s and playback from a "my music" folder I made works from the folder playlist (play all songs in folder playlist). I have not created a playlist / album config. I have added a my pictures folder and jpegs work fine. I have not tested any video yet. MP3s will not play when individual songs are selected from a folder but you can select them off the folder playlist. Setup on the PC was simple. Works great with JRE 1.5.

Hey Vilvic,
Nice piece of software you've got going here. How about making a utillity for converting winamp playlists to vilvic media center playlists?
