Hi all,
Anyone have any thoughts on connecting an external usb harddrive to the USB? I have tons of photos/music/etc... that I want to transfer from my pc, but the ps3 is not recognizing the HD when connected. Unfortunately, running back to and fro with a 1GB memory card is just too tedious.

I figured out my problem.
PS3 recognizes FAT32, not NTFS.
Also needed to create subdirectories for media files (PHOTO, MUSIC, VIDEO)
This has made transfer to the PS3 much quicker, although it would be nice if there was a transfer-over-LAN possibility.

If you dont want to make those specific directories you can press triangle and show all under what ever menu your looking at. This will show all the files in your external device but it will only play the files pertaining to (music, video, pictures) means you cant play music while your in pictures and so on.

In a word, no, Fat32 by design has a limit of 4096 (4GB) as a size for one file. That's why in cases like yours where you have a single file larger than that, people are attempting to use Media Center to stream it.
One question I have that I've not been able to answer yet is whether or not PS3 can read a double layer data DVD disk or not. I have on my PC a DVD drive capable of writing double layer but I don't have any of those types of disks yet to give it a try. If that worked then that would be a way to move files up to about 9 GB.
