Default Converter will not load - 10-25-2008, 11:19 PM

I had been using 4.0 classic converter without any problems and now I download the 4.2 upgrade. The message you see below is what I see each time I try to run the program after I download it. I have deleted the software from the control panel in Windows Vista and I have deleted it from the program folder. Of course I restart my pc after I delete the software. The software downloads without any problems but each time I try to run it, the same error message is shown. I am certain that I have 4.0 completely removed before I install 4.02 and that I'm following all of the proper steps to install the software. If anyone can help me out, I would really appreciate it.

That line indicates that the software is loading an old profile XML config file. These config files are no longer compatible with 4.02+. A clean installation of 4.02 should not have any of the old config files.

To see what file is causing the problem go to:
C:\Program Files\Red Kawa\Video Converter App\Profiles
C:\Users\USERAME\AppData\Red Kawa\Profiles

Open each file in IE or notepad and find which file starts with "<profileList" all the new profiles should start with a Capital P: "<ProfileList".

Delete any XML files you find that have a lower case P and then re-install.

Thanks Red Kawa, your solution fixed the problem for me. Even though I had uninstalled the program, I still had xml files that had to be removed. Thanks for your help!!

Which I understand is the same as the above poster, but I am still having trouble with the install. After I uninstall through the Control Panel>Uninstall, there are no such files as:

C:\Program Files\Red Kawa\Video Converter App\Profiles
C:\Users\USERAME\AppData\Red Kawa\Profiles.

What now? Thanks in advance.

I spoke too soon. I still have the same problem. Funny thing is that after I did the fresh install, I was able to run the program. After I closed the program and then started it back up, that's when I run into the same problem. Even though I am downloading the latest version from the website, when I open the program from the icon in my taskbar, it still says that I have version 4.0. That would be okay for me but 4.0 is not running correctly. I know that I deleted any/all versions before doing the fresh download. I don't know what else to do.

I did find the XML files that has the lower case P, but once I re-install is puts it back just as it was before. I guess I am not completely understand the process I should be using. Would someone mind walking me through it step by step.

Thanks again

All of my profile lists start with a capital P. Here is what the 6G profile looks like. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

Here is the last half of that file. I could not post a message greater than 10000 characters.

What Operating System are each of you using?

We are not quite sure why those lower case xml files are showing up. Whenever we test the installer it works fine and creates the proper profile files.

----

We recommend that you clean any traces of the current installation:
- Uninstall the program from the Start Menu/Control Panel
- Delete the C:\Program Files\Red Kawa\ if for some reason it still exists
- Delete C:\Users\USERAME\AppData\Red Kawa\if for some reason it still exists
- Delete C:\Users\USERAME\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Progra m Files\Red Kawa\

Next, download re-download the file from our website. The setup file should end in "-402-setup.exe", if it does not, you are running an old installer. When you click on the installer, make sure it says "4.02" in the installer window.

Before you run the software for the first time, go to the C:\Program Files\Red Kawa\Video Converter App\Profiles\ directory and check each xml file to see if any have a lower case p where it says ProfileList (Line 2).

If you find that there is a lower case p, please post which filename has this. Please check all xml files.

If all of them have capital P's, then run the program and see if you get an error. If you do, post the contents of the error here. Press Ctrl+C at the message box to copy the contents.

If you encounter the same error, please go to the C:\Program Files\Red Kawa\Video Converter App\Profiles\ directory and the C:\Users\USERAME\AppData\Red Kawa\Profiles and check each file for lowercase p's. If you find that there is a lower case p, please post which folder path + filename has this. Please check all xml files.

If everything works fine. Try re-running the program multiple times and see if the error pops up. If the error does, please follow the steps in the preceeding paragraph

-----

We would like to get to the bottom of this error, but since we cannot reproduce it ourselves, we require others to follow the necessary steps to figure out the problem. These steps are long but it is the only way we can fix the problem.

Fixed!. Deleting the C:\Users\USERAME\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Progra m Files\Red Kawa\, is what seemed to fix the problem. this is the only thing that I hadn't done last night. I have run and rerun the program a few times now and it is working perfectly.

I will tell you that last night when I was checking through the xml files, it was the nano 3G file that had the lower case p in it. But today after deleting the last Red Kawa file, all of the xml files showed upper care P's.

Thank you very much, Red Kawa. Your help is much appreciated.

Edit: since you asked...I'm running on Vista Home.
